For a Brit, France is quite a surreal experience. There is something so familiar yet so exotic about one of our closest foreign neighbours. Drive out the port and you have the whole country at your fingertips. There is so much romance in France, not just in the artisan Paris, or the uber-glamorous Cannes. It runs through the people, the language, the food and the scenery. No wonder it’s a Strawberry Holidays favourite.

France encompasses medieval cities, alpine villages, the cosmopolitan capital Paris, Mediterranean beaches with the rolling countryside. As well as wines, cheese and cuisine France is also famous for its insatiable appetite for art and culture. Lascaux’s ancient cave drawings, Lyon’s Roman theatre, the Palace of Versaille all attest to to its rich history. While the thousands of artisan stalls throughout Paris, the design houses and the art museums are an art lover’s paradise.

There is a holiday for everyone in France, whether you want to hitch up in your car, pitch a tent and enjoy a campsite, or you want a luxurious chateaux where you can enjoy vineyard tours and gastronomic delights. Weekends are whiled away in the City of Love, families can enjoy fun in the sun at the glorious beaches. For those looking for more outdoor action, the alpine villages are year round resorts, with mountains to hike and lakes to swim in the summer, or ski on in the winter.

What to do

More adventurous walkers will love Corsica, the hiking trails make the most of the unspoiled scenery.
Find a cafe with seats in the street and people watch, in Paris, Lyon, Nice or St Malo, watch the world whizz by at a different pace.
Head to the famous wine-producing regions, Bordeaux, Champagne and Burgundy, sample the delights straight from the source.
Families will love Disneyland Paris, and 2017 is it’s 25th year – there are huge celebrations planned!

When to go

The best time to go to France depends on your plans when you get there. Skiers need to be there in the peak snowfall months December to March. Hikers might prefer the shoulder months, April, May and September, October when the weather is milder but pleasant to walk in. For Paris the summer is quiet as the French head to the coasts so the nightlife is less lively but there are less queues and crowds at the sights. Although cooler in April to June, these months have their own delights including flowers, warm weather and the grape harvest!

Whatever you’re looking for from your holiday to France, Strawberry Holidays can tailor make your city break to Paris, your family camping and beach holiday or bespoke luxury experience. We’ll ensure you enjoy exceptional service and exclusive offers from the top tour operators for France.
