How much does a Walt Disney World trip cost?

It’s one of my most frequently asked questions and it’s the absolute hardest to answer. What is the average cost for a family of 4 to Walt Disney World or just 2 adults when Disney World planning? It can be completely overwhelming to find the most bang for your buck. How much does a Disney World trip cost per day also varies dramatically between clients.

One thing is for sure, a Walt Disney World holiday is often a once-in-a-lifetime trip and with the cost of flights, hotels and theme park passes adding up, planning your first Disney World holiday can be very overwhelming. That’s where the Fairy Godmother comes in. You can skip this article and jump straight to booking a call with me. Or check out below the elements of your holiday that adjust the price, as well as an overview of those hidden costs for consideration!

Flights

Flights are the biggest expense in your Walt Disney World package holiday. I live by the rule of 2 out of 3 on this one. Good, direct and cheap.
If you want good and direct, it won’t be cheap.
If you want good and cheap, it won’t be direct.
If you want cheap and direct, it won’t be good.
Other variables for the prices include the airline you choose, the airport you depart/ arrive. And of course the cabin class you choose, Upper Class is much more than Economy Light.

Accommodation in Orlando, Florida

At time of writing there’s over 145,000 hotel rooms in Orlando and they come in all shapes and sizes! As a Disney specialist, I split them into on-resort (I.e. a Disney hotel on the Resort) and off-resort hotels. Then we have villas and aparthotels. You can make compromises on your accommodation to save money. You can also enjoy a ton of Magical extras on-resort.

Best length of stay for Walt Disney World

There are a ton of nuances with duration, depending on your flights availability and day of the week 11 nights may be cheaper than 9 or 10 nights. But most obviously one week or two will make differences in price.

Who’s travelling?

Under 9’s are cheaper for park tickets. Over 12’s pay slightly more in airline taxes and over 16s are adults. There are so many factors at play, and the ages of those younger travellers can change the total price of the holiday. Not to mention the cost of feeding a teenager vs the ice cream costs of a toddler.

Best time to go to Walt Disney World?

The most expensive time of year is Easter, this is because people want to avoid the humid and busier July and August but feel they need 2 weeks to get the full experience..
My favourite time of year is October half term. The weather is dreamy and you get to see two seasons in one trip – Halloween and Christmas! It’s good value in the hotels and less busy in the parks etc, as the Americans don’t get an Autumn school break!

School holidays are a bug bear for many (including us agents – we’re affected too!). One tip is to check Scotland departures, they have very different holidays to the rest of the UK. So a trip to Edinburgh or Glasgow might be worth the difference in cost!

Tickets

Ticket durations, park inclusions and duration of validity will all impact the cost of your tickets. Also, the time of year you’re travelling as Peak dates cost more. And prices increase year on year. All things to consider when calculating the cost of your Disney World holiday.

14 for the price of 7 – 6 Disney Parks with Genie+ – From £489pp
Disney and Universal Combo Ticket – From £776pp

Car hire in Florida

One driver or two. Fully-comp insurance. Type of car. Unlimited fuel and mileage or restrictions should all be taken into consideration when hiring a car. Skip the Mustang convertible for a Ford Focus and you’ll save hundreds.

Availability

Popular dates will drive up prices for your stay. It’s the age old demand vs supply. As supply dwindles prices increase. And you’ll always see prices advertised with “subject to availability”.

Spending money

Just as with your cost of living in the UK, your spending money needs will be reflected in your spending habits and values. There are ways to save money, for example water is free in the parks if you take a refillable container, or you can splash out on the $4 – $6 per 500ml of spring water. You can eat in some of the finest restaurants the world has to offer or you can stock up in Walmart for packed lunches and enjoy fast food take outs for dinner.

I hope this has answered how much does a Disney World holiday package cost? But if you’re still trying to tie me down, I recommend a minimum of £5000 including tickets for 2 adults, and £8000 for a family of 4. This will give you some flexibility.

Total cost of Walt Disney World holiday

There is no way to definitively give you a total cost of the holiday, there are so many variables as explained above. We’ve booked Walt Disney World holidays which included flights, accommodation and tickets for a family of 2 adults and 1 child under 5 for as little as £5,000 (indirect flights),, a family of 4 in a villa, 2 adults, 2 primary school age children for under £9000 and Animal Kingdom Lodge stays for 2 weeks in peak Easter, 2 adults and 2 teens for over £19,000.

If budget is the biggest factor then you will have to be willing to compromise on any of the variables. An alternative, closer to home is Paris and we have details on the cost of Disneyland Paris guide too.
